Transference is the eighth main puzzle in the Western Delta area of The Talos Principle 2.

Puzzle elements

Overview

When you enter the puzzle, you find yourself in an L shaped area. To the left is a red emitter and a connector. On the right side is a driller and a swapper with a teleporter in it. There is a drillable wall that leads to the first inner room, which is also visible through a glass window.

In the first inner room, there is another connector, a pressure plate, a red rail drone with a path that leads across a blue door to the second inner room. There is a ladder that leads back outside.

In the second inner room, there is another pressure plate, and a blue door that leads to an elevated platform.

This elevated platform shares a drillable wall with the room with the progress wheel on it.

Since the name of the puzzle is Transference, you have to think about several types of transfers: how do you transfer equipment across drillable walls, and how do you transfer the rail drone from one place to another.

You need a second connector first, and that's only in the first inner room. How do you get there?

Instead of thinking about the puzzle, try to execute your plan. You will find that some of the puzzle elements are setup favorably in such a way that things fall into place

If you're struggling to get equipment onto the penultimate platform:

There is an angle from the outermost room, across the grate on the left side, where a corner of the innermost platform is visible clearly. With line of sight, you can do something.

Solution

Step 1: Drill a hole. Keep the driller a bit on the right side to give yourself more space on the left to keep connectors.
Step 2: Grab the connector from near the emitter and swap it out for the teleporter.
Step 3: Place the teleporter through the hole and teleport in.
Step 4: Grab the connector from the left side of the first inner room, connect it to the rail drone, and place it on the pressure plate. This opens the blue door.
Step 5: Take the teleporter and swap it out for the connector.
Step 6: Connect the emitter to the connector inside through the hole. This activates the rail drone.
Step 7: Wait until the rail drone reaches the end of the path, where it will push on the pressure plate in the second inner room, then disconnect. There is no expert timing needed here, because the laser gets interrupted anyway at the end of the path.
Step 8: Swap out the outer connector for the teleporter again, and teleport back in through the hole.
Step 9: Walk into the second inner room and jump onto the rail drone, then jump onto the elevated platform.
Step 10: Place the teleporter on the corner of the room, so it is visible from outside.
Step 11: Take the ladder outside. Grab the driller.
Step 12: Walk to the left corner of the outside room. Teleport to the elevated platform with the driller in your hands.
Step 13: Drill a hole to the progress wheel room. Drop in the teleporter in that room and teleport in.
