Overview

When you enter this puzzle, you find yourself in the main area. There are two rooms to the left, and a multi-room corridor on the right. Every room has a window looking out into the main area.

  • The main area has no equipment, but there three receivers on the walls (a blue, a red, and another blue) between each of the divisions of the rooms of the corridor on the right.
  • The first room on the left is currently held open by an active jammer. There is also a red emitter in the room, and a red receiver immediately outside.
  • The second room on the right is currently closed off by a blue door. However, there is an active connector that is attempting to connect a blue emitter inside to the blue receiver immediately outside. There is also a ladder inside that leads back out.
  • The corridor on the right has three divisions, each closed off on both sides by blue doors. The final room leads to the progress wheel. All the divisions are empty.

Hints

A basic hint:

[ hint ]
Since the name of the puzzle is Gateway Switch, the main problem of the puzzle involves going through the various doors of the divisions on the right, while being able to switch which doors are open and which are closed.

If you're struggling to get started:

[ hint ]
The first objective is to bring out both the connector and the jammer to the main area. This is a multi-step process, take your time with this part.

Mechanics of a connector:

[ hint ]
A quick refresher on some of the subtle properties of connectors. If a connector receives light from an emitter, it tries to push it to all the possible connections it has. If it receives two different colors of lasers from two different emitters, it does not transmit anything at all. This mechanic can be exploited, because if a connector is not transmitting anything at all, equipment that may be dependent on it can be made to go inactive.

If your equipment is going inactive as soon as you try to move the jammer:

[ hint ]
Notice that the connector can be made to become self-sustaining by connecting it to the receivers outside the red and blue emitter rooms.

A list of major objectives:

[ hint ]
Bring out all the equipment. Position the connector and connect it to everything. Use the jammer to facilitate moving through the corridor.
