Recorders, also called playback machines, are a puzzle element from The Talos Principle. After starting a recording, the player can move and interact with the world as usual for up to five minutes. At the end of this time, or after manual stopping a recording, the Simulation will project a playback of those events, creating a duplicate of the player most puzzles elements (these duplicates are superimposed on their originals and may not be visible until either the original object or its projection moves).

If the player resets or passes through a purple barrier, the recording and/or playback immediately terminates.
